Imagining digital tools in New Contexts: experiences in participatory mapping
dr. Jonathan Huck (February 7, 2024)
Dr. Jonny Huck is a Senior Lecturer in Geographical Information Science in the Department of Geography at The University of Manchester. Dr. Huck’s research includes applications of computational geography in both Human and Physical Geography, with current projects including the study of segregation in urban areas, global health challenges and environmental restoration. He is especially interested in the creation of new and improved methods, and has made significant contributions to the advancement of methods such as Participatory GIS, Volunteered Geographical Information, Geographical Modelling and Geographical Simulation.
He is a specialist in working in remote and un-mapped parts of the world, and amongst other things, he maintains the freely available Map-Me platform for participatory mapping, which has been used by a variety of research, commercial and governmental institutions globally. We appreciate Dr. Huck for being creative and open to our questions about his digital tools and how we can shape them, break them, or transport them beyond traditional ways of thinking about mapping across disciplines.
