Kelsey Marr (SHE/HER)

UBCO PhD Candidate (2018-present)

University of British Columbia | Okanagan Campus | Sylix Okanagan Nation Territory

Email Address: kelsey.marr@ubc.ca

Research Interests: Reproduction, reproductive mobilities, mobilities theory, feminist ethnography, COVID-19, Sweden, reproductive disruption.

Kelsey is current a PhD Candidate in the Department of Community Culture, and Global Studies at the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) in Interdisciplinary studies—Medical Anthropology, Gender Studies, and Mobilities Studies (Supervisor: Susan Frohlick). She is also a Guest Researcher with the Forum for Gender Studies and Mid Sweden University (Sundsvall, Sweden). Her doctoral research explores the reproductive mobilities of people living in Sweden during the COVID-19 pandemic. She notes a marked disconnect between predominate stories of the pandemic (i.e. pandemic baby booms) and people’s day-to-day experiences. By examining and unpacking these so-called “disjunctures,” Kelsey contributes to understandings of the ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic re-concretized and exacerbated inequality within the Swedish social-welfare state.

Kelsey is the recipient of a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship (2020-2023), and a Northern Scientific Training Program Fellowship (2020).
