Rivers and their publics: Reflections on 25 years of doing public anthropology

Dr. John Wagner is a professor of environmental anthropology in the Department of Community, Culture and Global Studies at UBC Okanagan. He researches human/water relations and food systems in the Okanagan Valley, the Columbia River Basin in Canada and the United States, and in Papua New Guinea. In this talk, Prof. John Wagner will describe his ongoing research with river communities in Canada, the US, and Papua New Guinea, and reflect on the challenges and outcomes of that research in relation to the most pressing environmental issues of our times, the future of anthropology, and the role of the university in public life.
