Date: October 30, 2023 from 9-11am PST.

OVERVIEW

Guest Presenters: Craig Campbell (UTexas, Austin) and Stephanie Sadre-Orafai (UCinncinati)

Duration: 2hrs

Using their collective experience in design and anthropology, Dr. Stephanie Sadre-Orafai (University of Cincinnati) and Dr. Craig Campbell (University of Texas, Austin) will lead an experiential workshop that explores how to ethnographically engage with signage. This workshop on the ethnography of infrastructure brings together design, architecture, and urban studies literature in conversation with anthropological theory and practice. Registration is Free and all participants will receive a design brief when they register. This brief is an exercise that asks participants to read a few short articles and undertake an abbreviated ethnographic exercise. The first part of the two-hour workshop will feature presentations by Stephanie and Craig, followed by a discussion of the exercise.

This event is part of the Infrastructures of Ethnography SSHRC Partnership Development Grant.
